Al-Qaida claims responsibility for French embassy bombing in Mauritania

Al-Qaida's North African wing claimed on a website on Tuesday responsibility for a suicide bombing near the French embassy in Mauritania early this month.


The al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, a major terrorist group in North Africa, said the bomber, Abu Obeida Musa, joined the orgnization two years ago.

The Aug. 8 bombing attack killed the suicide bomber on the spot and injured three others.

The al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb declared to join al-Qaida in 2006, and Algeria and other north African countries have witnessed increased violent attacks from then on.

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has promised to crack down on terrorist activities on its territory and started hunting terrorists in the capital.
