Sudanese president reaffirms his country's support for Palestinian cause

Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir reaffirmed on Wednesday his country's support for the Palestinian cause, the Palestinian National Authority's efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Bashir said at a joint press conference with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), who is visiting the Sudanese capital Khartoum, that "we have a clear position in support of the Palestinian issue, and the ongoing consultation between the Palestinian and Israeli sides through the envoys."

The Sudanese president expressed his appreciation for the efforts and the attentions paid by Abu Mazen to the issues in Sudan, saying that "we thank him, despite his concerns of large and pressing issues, has not forgotten the issues of Sudan, which has been part of the agenda of his meetings and talks with all the leaders he has met."

Sudanese official sources said that the talks between al-Bashir and Abu Mazen, in the Presidential Guest House in Khartoum dealt with a number of issues, in the forefront of which was the outcomes of the sixth conference of the Fatah movement and as well as the latest development regarding the inter-Palestinian dialogue and political negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

The Palestinian leader arrived in Khartoum on Wednesday afternoon for a two-day visit, which is the first visit for Abu Mazen since he was elected to the Palestinian presidency.
