China's chief justice visits Russia to promote judicial co-op

The chief justice of China's highest court says the strengthening of Sino-Russian cooperation in the judiciary will help the two countries' social and economic development.

Wang Shengjun, chief justice of the Supreme People's Court of China, spoke during a visit to Russia from Friday to Tuesday that was intended to boost judicial exchanges and cooperation.

Wang met with Vyacheslav Lebedev, chairman of Russia's Supreme Court, and other senior Russian justices during his trip.

He also told the Russian justices of the progress China has achieved in its judicial system since the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949.

The chief justice said China and Russia, which share long borders, are suffering cross-border crimes, terrorism, separatism and economic disputes.

He said China is willing to make joint efforts with Russia to implement the agreements reached by leaders of the two countries, deepen bilateral judicial cooperation, and promote regional peace, stability and development.

The Russian justices briefed Wang on their country's judicial system, and expressed their congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China.
