LOS ANGELES, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Alaska has overtaken California as the most expensive state for gasoline, the Automobile Club of Southern California said Friday.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline rose to 3.93 U.S. dollars in Alaska, said the club.

"Even though many California cities haven't set new record prices in a few days, the rest of the country continues to break records daily, " Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring said.

Gasoline prices fell six-tenths of a cent in Los Angeles County this week after hitting records for five consecutive weeks, according to the club.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline in Los Angeles County was 3.896 dollars on Friday morning,19 cents more than last month and 41 cents more than at this time last year.

"The price of crude oil keeps setting new records, and that continues to keep upward pressure on fuel prices," Spring said.
