David Brown, 57, a charity worker from Edinburgh, was charged with 10 counts of sexual abuse of children aged 4 to 13. Judge Gerd Hoxha described him as "a threat to society."
Brown opened the orphanage His Children in Tirana in 1999 and took in abandoned street children in Albania. He was arrested in May 2006 and his orphanage was shut down.
Brown will serve his prison sentence in a high security jail in Albania and he will be deported to Britain afterwards.
