CBD, normally shorthand for 'central business district', is now an acronym for a flourishing restaurant brand of modern Australian cuisine in Sydney, Brisbane and, of late, Shanghai.
Adapting the concept of leisurely dining, CBD provides seafood lovers with a relaxed alternative to the bustle of Tongchuan Lu's seafood market eateries. The 'down-under' decor of aboriginal artworks is an apt setting for indulging in south Australian oysters (half a dozen, RMB 158), where every bite uncovered a zest that went beyond their silky texture. The questionable freshness of the sole fillet surf and turf burger (RMB 78), however, delivered a less pleasant jolt to the senses.
A prime Xintiandi location carries the weight of great expectations and CBD will have to be mindful of matching the consistency of its high-profile neighbors.(shanghai.urbanatomy.com)
