The soldiers, described as defense planners, will be co-ordinating funds and equipment sent from donor countries. They will be deployed for 12 months to NATO's peacekeeping headquarters in Pristina, MacKay said at a press conference at a military base near Frederiction in eastern New Brunswick Province.
Canada decided to send the soldiers after it received a request for specialty personnel, MacKay said.
An international peacekeeping force of about 15,000-strong was deployed in Kosovo in June 1999 after fighting erupted between the Kosovo Liberation Army and forces from Serbia and the former Yugoslavia.
