The fourth China International Cartoon Festival wrapped up in eastern China's Hangzhou city the past weekend. The event, as it grows in scale, has proven a staple platform for showcasing and drawing new business for China's burgeoning animation industry.

The cartoon festival was deemed a huge success with sales volume over 600 million US dollars and contracts signed for 34 programs. The contracts involve 7 countries and regions around the world. These include the animation giants, Japan and the United States.

Content covers all aspects of animated film production, creative training, intellectual copyright warrants, as well as industrial cooperation.

Delegates from 12 international cartoon festival committees agreed on an "Interdependent Announcement". The aim is to boost the development of the animation industry as a whole, through cooperation and communication.

The week of exhibitions, performances, and forums attracted nearly 300 thousand visitors. There were cartoon-lovers, animation professionals, and investors.

In China, cartoons are becoming a lucrative market. There's a strong rise in small press and home-made video productions. The total length of China's animated productions in 2007 is over 100 thousand minutes. That's more than double the sum of animated productions from 1993 to 2003.
