To enhance co-operation among Central and Southeast European countries is the essential precondition in facing new security risks, Austrian Interior Minister Maria Fekter said on a press conference after the "Forum Salzburg" held in Vienna on Thursday.

No country could ensure its own safety by just itself, in facing with those new non-traditional security risks. Assistances from partner countries and neighbor countries are needed for Austria, said Fekter.

She mentioned that all ministers who attended the forum had fairly consistent view on this issue. "Austria would have no security without the security in its neighbor countries," she emphasized.

All forum-participating ministers agreed also on formulating unified European policy for refugees and suggested this issue be discussed and implemented under the framework of EU.

Fekter praised also the so far effective police cooperation carried out by all countries. Successes such as more efficiently fighting against terrorism, combating drug smuggling and human trafficking as well as other transnational organized crimes, had been achieved by exchanging DNA data.

Chairman of the forum, also Hungarian Minister of Justice and Law Enforcement, Tibor Draskovics said also on the press conference that strengthening European security was not an empty talk. To strengthen the police cooperation among all countries was essential.

He said also that the Hungary would further open up for South European countries and "better guard against dangers coming from those countries" at the same time.

The important theme of this forum was to coordinate the standpoints of all countries on problems of immigration and asylum.

Beside Austrian Interior Minister Fekter, ministers from new EU member countries including Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary attended the forum. Minister of Croatia, which is applying for being EU member, also attended the Forum as an observer.
