Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit met in Beirut Wednesday with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Fouad Seniora, expressing his worries about the situation in Lebanon and particularly in Tripoli, local NBN TV reported.

The Northern Lebanese city of Tripoli was the scene of fierce sectarian clashes in the past weeks.

"We discussed recent Israeli threats to Lebanon, and the Egyptian stand alongside Lebanon," Abul Gheit said after meeting Suleiman.

He revealed that they asked the Israeli side to stop their threats against Lebanon.

After meeting Seniora, Abul Gheit said that "Egypt is prepared to build the Lebanese army capabilities so it could shoulder its responsibilities."

He revealed that efforts are underway to prepare the atmosphere for better Egyptian-Syrian-Saudi relations.

The Lebanese have been split into two camps, the ruling coalition which is supported by Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and the opposition supported by Syria and Iran.
