LONDON, July 16 (Xinhua) -- London stock market ended lower on Wednesday, which was brought down by energy and mining shares.
The benchmark FTSE 100 index was down by 21.30 points, or 0.41 percent at 5150.60 at the close, with Dana Petroleum shedding 4.93percent and Petrofac Ld losing 4.44 percent.
Shares of Xstrata, the Swiss mining company slided 4.89 percent to be followed by Antofagasta, the Chilean mining firm, which dipped 4.48 percent.
Banking shares had unexpectedly recovered from early lows in the morning, with Lloyd and Barclays climbing respectively by 4.03percent and 2.4 percent.
