Eurozone industrial producer prices down 0.8% in October

BRUSSELS, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The industrial producer price index in the 15-nation eurozone sharply fell in October, compared with the previous month, official figures released here on Tuesday showed.

Producer prices plunged 0.8 percent month-on-month in October, the biggest monthly drop since records began in 1990, European Union statistics agency Eurostat said.

On a yearly basis, industrial producer prices are 6.3 percent higher in October than last year, Eurostat said.

In the 27-nation European Union, the prices declined by 1.4 percent in October over the previous month, while on a yearly basis, the prices are 7.3 percent higher than last year.

On a monthly basis, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector fell by 0.4 percent in October in both the euro area and the EU.

Prices in the energy sector sharply dropped 2.0 percent over the month.

Durable consumer goods prices gained 0.3 percent in both zones, while capital goods remained unchanged in the euro area and rose by 0.1 percent in the EU.

In both zones, non-durable consumer goods prices fell by 0.1 percent and intermediate goods prices by 1.0 percent.
