The explosion occurred Saturday morning near the Darulaman camp, some 10 km south of Kabul, when the soldiers were on their way to a firing range, a French military spokesman said.
The two soldiers belonged to a team of French instructors attached to the 201st Corps Afghan National Army in the Kabul region.
The wounded soldier was airlifted to a nearby military hospital. "He was operated on and his life is not in danger," the spokesman said.
France has 2600 soldiers in a NATO mission and a U.S.-led operation in Afghanistan. The latest death brought the number of French soldiers killed in the country to 25 since the United States started the operation in October 2001.
