Garbage collecting fuels blaze in woman's home

A pensioner's bizarre hobby of storing garbage at home may have caused a fire in a residential building in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, late last month.

After the fire was extinguished in the home of a 70-year-old woman, firefighters were shocked to find at least several tons of garbage .

The woman is a pensioner who need not worry about food or clothes but has collected waste for more than a decade and keeps a dozen dogs to guard it.

Although she is not poor and has coal balls, she uses worn-out timber and plastic she collects to cook. The fire might have broken out when she cooked, firefighters said.
