The General Staff said in a statement posted on its website that Turkish jets Monday bombed the Zap region in northern Iraq, close to the Turkish-Iraqi border.
The statement said that the bombardment, which started from 11:00 a.m.(0800 GMT) to 6:00 p.m.(1500 GMT), was effective, adding that all planes returned to their bases safely after completing their mission.
According to the statement, there was no civilian casualties in the raid because the area was unpopulated.
A Turkish army officer and two soldiers were killed along with four PKK rebels in clashes in eastern Turkey last month.
The Turkish forces take tougher actions against the PKK after the country's legislature extended on Oct. 8 the government's mandate to launch cross-border operations against the rebels in northern Iraq.
The PKK took up arms in 1984 to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. Some 40,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
