HONG KONG, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong stocks tracked overnight tumbles on Wall Street and other markets to open at 14, 902.96 on Thursday, dropping 1095.96 points, or 6.85 percent.
Although Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang tried to reassure that Hong Kong will weather the global financial turmoil, the Hang Seng Index slipped back below the 16,000 points level on Wednesday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index extended losses on Thursday and once even plummeted 7 percent, dropping 1162.48 points.
