Discrimination against homosexuals continued to foment the spreading of HIV in some countries, an official of the International AIDS Society (IAS) said Wednesday.
Investigations have proved that the reduction of social exclusion of homosexuals was conducive to public health, IAS Executive Director Craig McClure said at the 17th International AIDS Conference.
He said the IAS considers the reduction of social exclusion of homosexuals an absolute priority for all countries.
About 25,000 scientists, policymakers and physicians gathered in Mexico City to attend the six-day conference, with the aim of searching for better ways to stem the spread of the disease.
The international conference, which began Sunday, is the largest regular HIV/AIDS-related meeting organized by the IAS, theworld's leading independent association of HIV/AIDS professionals.
