A Public Security Department official said Wheidi had no political affiliations or serious criminal background except for two minor thefts.
The assailant was having financial difficulties and was born to a family "whose members have a history of medical problems," the official added, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The shooting incident took place outside the historic spot Roman Theater in downtown Amman, leaving six injured including four members of Lebanese Kaslik choir, whom just completed a performance in the theater.
The attacker, who tried to commit suicide after the shooting, was pronounced clinically dead at hospital, the report said.
In the meantime, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Nasser Judeh said on Thursday evening that five injured in the shooting have left hospital Thursday while the sixth, an Arab Israeli woman, is expected to be discharged Friday.
The capital has previously seen similar incidents where tourists were targeted in recent years.
