BEIJING, July 17 -- Taiwan-based entertainer Leon Jay Williams will kick off his musical career in the mainland by singing a song written for the Beijing Olympics swimming venue, the Water Cube.

Williams announced his new project at a press conference on Tuesday in Beijing, where he signed with Beijing-based Starlight International Media, an entertainment agent that also represents Pace Wu and Wilson Chen.

"This will be my first song , and I will collaborate with a South Korean artist," Williams told reporters. He declined to name the Korean star, only saying she is a famous singer and that they would soon enter the studio in South Korea.

The unnamed song is specially written for the Water Cube, and will be sung in English and Chinese, according to Sina.com.cn, which live broadcasted the press conference.

It will also be the first single from Williams' upcoming EP, the report says.

Singaporean-born Williams, 31, is of mixed Chinese, English, German and Japanese origins. A former model, he has starred in several Taiwan dramas.

In 2005, Williams released an English compilation in Taiwan. Entitled "Sweet Inspirations," the album collected love songs from the 1960s and 70s and only featured Williams in two tracks. On the mainland he is better known as a handsome man who is not quite fluent in Chinese.

But that impression will be changed, according to Williams. "I'm always wanting to try Chinese songs ... My Chinese is improving and I think I will go for the challenge," he told Sina.

His new EP is likely to be a collection of love ballads with retro and pop flavors, Williams added.
