TOKYO, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed Thursday with Nikkei index up 0.12 percent.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average went up 15.29 points to 12,768.25 from Wednesday.
The Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, however, slipped 4.16 points, or 0.34 percent, to 1,219.53.
Volume leader GS Yuasa, a manufacturer of automobile lead-based storage batteries, shed 33 yen, or nearly 6 percent, to 542 yen.
On the First Section, declining issues outnumbered advancing ones 972 to 613, with 124 others remaining unchanged.
Trading volume on the main section went up to 1,387.95 million shares from 1,304.52 million Wednesday.
The TSE's Second Section index lost 10.08 points, or 0.39 percent, to 2,549.29 on a volume of 32.68 million shares.
On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term September Nikkei 225 index futures contract fell 10 points to 12,770.
