One person was killed and six others were injured when clashes renewed overnight in north Lebanon city of Tripoli, Local Anahar website reported Friday.

Lebanese army soldiers opened fire when a car refused to stop at an army checkpoint in the Sunni district of Bab al-Tebbaneh, leading to an exchange of fire during which four soldiers injured, one of them seriously, the report added.

The report said that in an other clash between fighters from Bab al-Tebbaneh and troops of the internal security forces at an army roadblock in the largely Sunni district, a person was killed and two others were wounded.

High security measures were adopted earlier Friday after overnight clashes in the district.

In June, 14 people have been killed and over 100 others wounded, and in the first weeks of July, during clashes between neighboring districts of Bab al-Tabbaneh where most Sunni supporters of Prime Minister Fouad Seniora live and Bal Mohsen which is controlled by opposition residents.

Calm was reported in the area last week after Lebanese army moved in to separate fighters, and threatened to use force against any security violation.

Lebanon witnessed fierce clashes in Beirut during the month of May, between pro-government Sunnis, and Hezbollah Shiite opposition supporters.

An Arab sponsored accord was reached between rival Lebanese leaders in Doha on May 21 banning the use of arms to settle political disputes.
