Angola is ready to hold the Sept. 5 parliamentary elections, a senior electoral official said here on Saturday.

Caetano de Sousa, chairman of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), told reporters that CNE is now testing the national communication network linking the national counting center with all the provincial counting centers.

He added that the materials for polling stations across the country have already been handed over to the 18 provincial electoral commissions and the municipal electoral offices across the country.

Luanda province which houses the Angolan capital is Angola's largest province with a population of some 5 million, accounting for one third of the country's total.

After an inspection visit to the National Counting Center in Luanda on Friday, the CNE top official said he is satisfied with the preparations and various testing work done in the national center linking the provincial and municipal counting centers.

According to him, Angola's telecom companies have guaranteed that there will not be any problems during the electoral process.

The ballot counting of the parliamentary elections comprises a hook-up with four levels that will enable the data from the polling stations to reach the municipal ballot counting centers, the provincial centers and finally to the National Counting Center that will release the final results.
