Interior Minister Roberto Leal Monteiro was quoted as saying that the National Police has fully implemented a security plan to guarantee social order and stability on the polling day.
The minister said based on the comments by contesting parties, the National Police have been carrying out its security and order plan for the electoral period without favoring any political organization.
The government official declared that the police are in top readiness and whenever they are called to solve a problem, they show their capacity of action in favor of peace and democracy.
According to Paulo de Almeida, coordinator of the Command Post for Security of the Elections, 70,000 police officers and men will be dispatched to various parts of the country to guarantee public order and tranquility during the polls.
He said the government has also reinforced the traffic and public order police units and created an emergency force to intervene in any disorder during the polls.
More than eight million voters have been registered for the legislative election, the first one after the 27-year civil war ended in Angola in April 2002. Ten political parties and four coalitions in the country will run in the elections to contest for 220 parliamentary seats.
