A woman who lost her class ring in Lake Michigan in 1954 got it back, media reported Monday.

Robert Savage, a metal-detector hobbyist, told Ludington Daily News that he found the ring about 12 years ago but only recently began looking for its owner.

The ring bore the year 1955 and the initials "J" and "P," according to the metal detector. Savage located a 1955 Ludington High Yearbook and found Jan Pedersen was the only person in the class with the right initials.

But Jan Pedersen, now Jan Zacharda, said she'd forgotten about the ring she lost in Lake Michigan at Ludington State Park.

And she was puzzled when Robert Savage told her he'd found it in Oxbow Lake, located a dozen miles southeast of the state park -- a place she's never been.
