It is the first time the plant has been shown publicly in Shanghai.
When touched gently, the leaves of the plant will close up immediately. Its leaves fold downward, which is different from mimosa plants that fold upward.
According to botanists, the plant is native to southern China. At the request of Shanghai Botanic Garden, botanists in Yunnan Province took great efforts to find one and bring it to the city.
The exhibition boasts rare plants from all over the world including``dancing grass'' from Yunnan Province, mimosa from the rainforests of Brazil and sensitive trees from Central America.
