Reports: Four killed in earthquake in Russia's North Caucasus region

Four people were killed in an earthquake jolting the Russian North Caucasus region Saturday, Russian media reported.

Tremors were registered in Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia, North Ossetia, and the Stavropol territory at 13:05 Moscow time (0905 GMT), the Interfax news agency reported, citing the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry as saying.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Chechen republic, 122 km northwest of Makhachkala city in southwestern Russia, the Itar-Tass news agency reported, citing the head of the Makhachkalaseismic station.

According to preliminary information, the quake measured from 4.0 to 5.0 on the Richter scale, the Itar-Tass news agency said.
