"Sport has to be represented at the government's table and not only asked from time to time how it is doing or, two or three weeks before the important competitions, about the results that are expected," Basescu said at the ceremony of decorating the Olympians.
"I believe that sport has started to define the force of nations and Romania needs to re-establish the ministry of youth and sport as institution that should represent, in the government meetings, the interests of sport and of the Romanian performance in this filed," he added.
According to the president, it is the right time, right after the Olympics, to talks about the setting up again of ministry of youth and sport.
A sport ministry functioned in Romania over 1990-2003. At present, the National Agency for Sport is a facilitated authority which coordinates the activity of the physical education and sport domain.
