Top diplomats from Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will discuss DPRK's denuclearization and security measures in Northeast Asia, Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold talks with his visiting counterpart Pak Ui Chun from DPRK, who will pay an official visit to Moscow on Wednesday.

"The talks will discuss the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on the situation in Northeast Asia, in particular progress in the six-party talks on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula," said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko.

Washington removed DPRK from its terrorism-sponsoring states list on Saturday after the two sides reached an agreement on verification measures over the latter's nuclear program, paving the way for a new round of the talks that also involve China, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan.

Under a 2007 agreement of the international talks, the DPRK pledged to disable its nuclear facility in a step toward its eventual dismantlement in exchange for diplomatic concessions and energy aid.

But the accord has been stalled by disputes over the verification of a nuclear declaration between the DPRK and the United States.

The DPRK halted disabling its nuclear facilities in August in retaliation for Washington's failure to remove the country from its terrorism-sponsoring states list.
