Salvage operations to a capsized giant passenger ferry is delayed for another week due to late arrival of rescue equipment, local media reported Thursday.

Titan Salvage, the U.S.-headquartered salvage firm to handle Sulpicio Lines' ill-fated vessel MV Princess of the Stars, said that it will need at least four more days to get the equipment to the size, radio dzBB reported.

The equipment is expected to reach the capsizal site near the Sibuyan Island of Romblon province.

The salvage process was scheduled to start on last Monday but reports cited the salvage firm as saying that recent storms had delayed the transport of equipment.

The 23,000-ton vessel carried a total of 862 individuals of passengers and crew when it overturned and submerged in central Philippines on June 21 at the height of typhoon.

With less than 60 people surviving, the capsizal is considered one of the worst marine-time tragedies in recent years in the country.
