Strong wind causes delays in Dutch air, railway transport

Gale-force wind has caused considerable problems across the Netherlands on Friday, with train and plane passengers facing delays and power cables being damaged, the ANP news service reported Friday.

Amsterdam's Schiphol airport reported delays of at least 90 minutes because some runways cannot be used due to strong wind of up to 100 km per hour, the news service said.

Meanwhile, trees have crashed onto railway lines in at least three places in the country and a number of overhead cables have been damaged.

The railway transport on the routes between the western city of Leiden, The Hague and Rotterdam were disrupted and fewer services are operating.

According to the forecast, the stormy conditions is to continuein to the afternoon with wet snow and hail expected in many areas.
