Speaking at a mass rally the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, the Sudanese president said "We will work to achieve development, reconstruction, and return justice to those who suffered from damage or injury."
"The enemies of Sudan and Darfur do not wish to achieve peace in our country. They always seek to obliterate and undo whatever we have achieved. They see the Darfur issue as their best chance to serve their agenda of fragmenting Sudan," warned the president.
Omar al-Bashir arrived earlier Wednesday at the city of El Fasher on a two-day visit to the troubled western Sudanese region of Darfur.
The visit came after over one week after the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC)'s Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo requested an arrest warrant against al-Bashir for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the western Sudanese region of Darfur. The last time al-Bashir visited here was in July2007.
Sudan, which is not a member of the ICC, has rejected the ICC allegations, dismissing them as "null and false" and maintaining the ICC has no jurisdiction over Sudan.
