Taiwan stocks end 0.61% higher

HONG KONG, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan stocks closed
modestly higher on Tuesday with heavier turnover, according to media reports
reaching here from Taipei.

The benchmark-weighted index opened at 4,719.54 and rose 28.95 points, or 0.61 percent, to close at 4,727.26 after trading between intra-day high
4,754.88 and intra-day low 4,679.43.

Turnover rose to 81.44 billion New Taiwan dollars
(2.46 billion U.S. dollars) from Monday's 66.9 billion Taiwan dollars (2.03
billion U.S. dollars).

Advancing shares led declining issues 853 to 681,
with 250 stocks unchanged.
