With the hard work of 12,000 technicians, the telecommunications network is being restored to quake-stricken areas of Sichuan Province, officials at the rescue headquarters of the State Council (cabinet) said on Friday.
The eight worst-hit counties -- including Wenchuan, Moxian, Lixian, Beichuan and Mianzhu -- have been re-linked to the world through fixed line and mobile phones.
The officials said that 336 of the 616 damaged fixed line exchange stations had been repaired, as had 6,500 of the 16,507 wireless stations.
More than 50,000 people are feared dead in Sichuan alone after Monday's 7.8-magnitude quake, and an area of more than 100,000 square kilometers has been affected.
