TOKYO, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed Wednesday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average finished with a loss of 54.02 points, or 0.44 percent, from Tuesday to 12,346.63.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 0.79 point, or 0.07 percent, to 1,192.38.
Value leader Mizuho Financial Group rose 13,000 yen, or nearly 3 percent, to 470,000 yen.
Volume leader Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group advanced 27 yen, or over 3 percent, to 867 yen.
On the First Section, advancing issues outnumbered declining ones 919 to 708, with 89 others remaining unchanged.
Trading volume on the main section came to 2,266.16 million shares, up from Tuesday's 1,785.50 million.
The TSE's Second Section index was up 0.64 point, or 0.03 percent, to 2,489.08 on a volume of 40.47 million shares.
On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term September Nikkei 225 index futures contract was down 60 points to 12,330.
