HONG KONG, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, operator of the city's stock market, announced here Friday to suspend trading of the stock market's morning session as Typhoon Nuri moved closer to the city.

Hong Kong Observatory issued a No. 8 northwest gale or storm signal Friday morning, forecasting Typhoon Nuri will be rather close to Hong Kong Friday with a chance of direct landfall.

Due to the looming Typhoon Nuri, stock market operation said trading of afternoon session will also be suspended if the No. 8 northwest gale or storm signal remains in effect until noon (0400 GMT).

The No. 8 gale or storm signal means winds with an average speeds of 63 kilometers per hour or more are expected.
