Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting Czech Prime Minister Marek Topolanek, Erdogan said that they would assess the recent suggestion of the opposition parties for the creation of a military buffer zone in the north of Iraq, with the military.
"Turkish Armed Forces which is assigned with this task (fighting terrorists) can make the best assessment on the issue: onwhich spots can buffer zones be created, or whether it is possibleto create a buffer zone along the entire border," said Erdogan.
Erdogan said if they deemed it necessary and useful in preventing terrorists attacks, they would not hesitate to take a decision to form a buffer zone.
Erdogan on Tuesday said the country would launch cross-border military operations against PKK's bases in northern Iraq if necessary.
The anger of the Turkish people is mounting after last Friday' s deadliest attack that killed 15 Turkish soldiers in Hakkari province. The Erdogan government and the powerful military have pledged to intensify a campaign to crush the outlawed PKK.
The PKK took up arms in 1984 with the aim of creating an ethnichomeland in southeastern Turkey. Some 40,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
Turkey has conducted frequent air raids on suspected positions of the PKK in northern Iraq. In February, it also launched an eight-day cross-border ground incursion against PKK rebels.
