A minister of state of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be tried on court on criminal charges of betrayal of trust, swindling and criminal complicity with three other defendants, local newspaper The National reported Friday.

The decision was announced by Essa Eisa Humaidan, the attorney general of Dubai, the second largest emirate of the UAE, according to the report.

The charge against the state minister, whose name was not disclosed, was filed by the widow of a Lebanese businessman in Mayand June, Humaidan said.

The Lebanese woman alleged that the minister, who was her husband's local partner when he set up a company in Dubai in 1995,took over the business when her husband died in 2005.

She accused the minister of "breaching the trust of her family's business, including a huge property and a company based in Dubai," Humaidan was quoted by the local paper as saying.

He will be questioned by a court on charges of breach of trust, embezzlement, swindling and aiding and abetting a crime, Humaidan said.

A team of prosecutors was assigned in June to launch investigations and gather evidence, according to Humaidan.

The attorney general said that he had heard the statements of all those involved in the case and gathered necessary evidence to proceed with the indictment.

A date for a court hearing in the case is expected to be set in the coming weeks.
