Deputy speaker of Zambian National Assembly Mutale Nalumango has ordered the executive arm of the government to issue another ministerial statement in parliament on the illness of President Levy Mwanawasa, according to Times of Zambia.
She said the health condition of the president was an open issue for discussion in the country and called for periodic updates on the matter, according to the report.
Zambian Health Minister Brian Chituwo told parliament last Friday that the president was responding to the treatment and care plan, designed by the team of specialized doctors.
He ,however, said that because of the serious nature of the president's illness, the healing process may be long.
Mwanawasa suffered a stroke on June 29 in Sharm-el-Sheik, Egypt where he was to attend the African Union summit.
He was admitted into Sharm-el-Sheik International Hospital and transferred on July 1 to the Percy Military Hospital in Paris, France.
