Zhang Yimou, the widely-acclaimed director of the Olympics Opening Ceremony, has denied rumors that he is to become head of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television in Beijing.
Word was Zhang would end his directing career and become a bureaucrat but he says he has no intention of entering politics and insists that making films is his passion for life.
Asked what he was planning, Zhang told the Yangtze Evening News only that his next movie would have a modern theme. He also disclosed that he is eager to return to the movie studio and plans to start shooting at the end of the year.
Most Chinese netizens gave high praise to the long-awaited Opening Ceremony, hailing it as a "masterpiece".
